Below are a collection of links to articles and commentaries discussing the impacts on Wildlife                    should the Proposed Pickering Airport be built.

Black Hole of Conservation “Birds and Wildlife” Page                                                  “ With the Pickering Airport, degradation of water quality in Rouge River and adjacent water courses, fuel dumping (accidental or otherwise) and collisions with birds will be a certainty. Methods used to control wildlife and birds at airports (including Toronto's Pearson), include Rafters, Falcons and other species, sound blasters, dogs, traps and elimination of attractive habitat to wildlife. Species will disappear and wildlife numbers will drastically be reduced in the Rouge Park area. The proposed Pickering Airport should be regarded as the worst possible environmental threat to Rouge Park of all time”

Transport Canada “Passive and Active Wildlife Management” Page                               “Passive and active initiatives work hand in hand to ensure effective wildlife management. For example, modifying large areas of suitable wildlife habitat through the removal of ponds and perches will reduce the need for active management.  Conversely, clearing runways of birds solely through active management techniques can be counterproductive if, for   instance, passive measures have not reduced the availability of food, water and shelter at other parts of the airport.
